MIISO: Modal Integrators for Isogeometric Stabilization of Outliers

This arXiv paper addresses the challenge of non-physical outlier modes that appear at the top of the discrete spectrum in high-order isogeometric discretizations. These modes can contaminate numerical solutions in wave propagation and structural dynamics applications. The authors introduce MIISO (Modal Integrators for Isogeometric Stabilization of Outliers), a family of modal integrators designed to stabilize these outlier modes. Unlike existing approaches that modify spatial discretization through outlier-free bases, mass lumping, or subspace projection, MIISO provides a time integration-based remedy for the structural dynamics domain.
